We went on our last hike of our summer on Friday, Sept. 18th. It wasn't a very long hike at all, but it was just nice to get out. We have had an INCREDIBLE fall!! Seriously, it's been uncommonly warm and sunshiney(is that a word...my spell check doesn't think so.) So, we had to take advantage of it.
We ended up driving out Snug Harbor Road. We stopped at a lake (I don't remember the name), where Shayne of course had to bust out the fly rod and make a few casts. He didn't get anything, but it's just a matter of principle for him. :) Then he and Lachlan HAD to throw rocks in the lake. It must be a boy thing, Shayne does this every time we stop at a lake/ocean.
Then we backtracked a bit and went on short hike. It would probably be better classified as a walk. It was a new trail you could probably take a wheelchair on. I think it was called the Rainbow Lake Trail. Shayne did not get out his fly rod here...he does (at times) know when to curb his fly-fishing enthusiasm (plus it was a stocked lake, and he prefers to fish wild trout...sheesh).
Anyway...the scenery with the sun and lack of wind made for some pretty impressive reflections on the lake. Seriously...you can see the clouds in the lake. It was awesome. It's one of the many things I love about living in Alaska...you never tire of the view.
Anyway...it was nice just to get out for one last hoo-rah before burrowing in for the winter.
I added some photos (hence the duplicate photos) I edited using Picasa...I'm a fan of that software...pretty darn cool.
