Anyone ever been in a volcanic eruption, other than in Hawaii? Me either. However, I'm about to add "Experience a volcanic eruption." to my list of life achievements. Yup...good ole' Mt. Redoubt, which is about 50 miles west of us here in Soldotna, is about to erupt. (See map below)
The geologists are saying it's not a matter of "if" but "when". And...here's what the official website says currently:
2009-01-30 11:47:26
Seismicity at Redoubt has increased markedly over the last 20 minutes. Clear webcam views and pilot reports indicate that the volcano has not yet erupted.
The Aviation Color Code remains at ORANGE and the Volcano Alert Level remains at WATCH.

We have dust-masks and food/water in preparation. It's kinda cool, but we don't get magma...we just get lots and lots of ash...not so much fun to clean up. It destroys your cars, and electronics.
Anyway...that's the exciting news for us here in Alaska...a volcano.
Huh.
What am I doing up here?

You're hanging out with your 4 other children. :-) Stay safe and take lots of pictures. That's actually kind of exciting.... I don't think it would be if you were closer that 50 miles, but...... not a lot of people can say they have seen that!
Lucky! You got to say "magma"! : )
Stay safe. Bummer about your cars and stuff. If it erupts, does that mean you just get to hole up at home until the ash clears! I'm with Michelle. Take lots of pictures!
I felt very smart after reading your blog about Mt. Redoubt. An article about it was in the newspaper the next day and I already knew all about it from you!! Good luck!!
