...what can happen in a year.
It was a year ago today Shayne and I were at the University of Chicago Hospital to have surgery. I was 12 1/2 weeks along with our miracle IVF baby, and I had a VERY high risk of losing our baby. I was born with cervical insufficiency which would prevent me from sustaining a pregnancy. I needed a trans-abdominal cerclage (TAC) to prevent an impending miscarriage. My Dr. here didn't know what it was, and no one in Alaska performed it. So, I started doing research and found Dr. Haney. What a wonderful man! He performs more TAC's than anyone in the country, so that's where I wanted to go.
I found his info on Thursday night March 27th, Dr. Anderson called him on Friday the 28th, and we flew out to Chicago on Tuesday, April 1st, for the procedure on Wednesday the 2nd. We flew back to Anchorage on Saturday the 5th. It was a whirl wind experience...but so worth it! We were able to enjoy the rest of the pregnancy without any worries I was going to miscarry. In fact...I did everything last summer I would have done had I not been pregnant. And...we delivered our little boy (via C-section b/c of the TAC), without any complications.

Now here I am exactly a year later...and I'm thinking to myself...Wow, it's amazing what can happen in a year! My Heavenly Father sure loves me!

If you know anyone who has miscarried after about 16 weeks for no known reason, they may have cervical insufficiency. (I stress "may" b/c there are lots of reasons to miscarry) Please share my story, so no one has to experience the devastation of losing a baby. I was lucky I knew about my condition prior to getting pregnant...very few women are that lucky. So...please share with others.

It's amazing what mothers will do for their children... there is such a strong motherly connection and pull. I'm so happy for your happy ending to your long journey to get a baby here!
You are amazing Pepper! What a cool story. I am so happy for you and your little family. What a blessing modern medicine is! So did that surgery fix you for good, or would you need the same procedure if you were to get pregnant again?
You know how you feel like you have no room to complain to me, well I feel like that about your pregnacy with Lach. You might not have been sick like me but you sure went through a lot. So were a champ. Just think, the next one will be easier, right?!
