“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”

The Evolution of Nicknames...Good-bye Bug and Sweet Pea

So...I'm changing the nicknames of our kids on the blog.

When I gave Sweet Pea her nickname I did it as soon as she was born before we actually even attached a nickname to her.  But...she has grown into a new nickname...or her dad has given her one and now her big brother uses it as well.  She has become "Tiny One"...or just "Tiny"

Whenever her dad sees her after coming home from work he looks at her and says, "How's my Tiny One doing?"  Or, "How's Tiny today?"  And now, Bug is using it as well.  He'll look at her and say, "Hi Tiny One!"  Or, "Look, there's my Tiny One!"

So...while Sweet Pea is still very much a sweet pea, she has become our "Tiny One", and from now on on the blog she'll be referred to as "Tiny".

Now...onto The Bug.  His dad gave him this nickname as well and we have used it for the first 2 years of his life...but in the past few months he doesn't get called Bug nearly as much as he used to.  It's like he grew out of his nickname...he's just not the same little Bug as he used to be.  It doesn't fit like it used to.  So...

His dad has given him another nickname and it's pretty much stuck.  He started calling him "Shordy" quite awhile ago but it has become the nickname of choice in the past few months...in fact the basketball boys Shayne coaches know him by and call him Shordy.  I'm a little concerned the nickname might cause some height complexes, especially b/c he is short...but I'm hoping he'll grow out of it and be at least average in height.  :)

I actually call him Shordy McGoo...and he answers to it.

So...while our Bug will always be our little Bug...he has become "Shordy" and from now on on the blog will be referred to as "Shordy".

We love our Sweet Pea and Bug...and we will miss those nicknames.  But...we also love our Tiny One and our Shordy McGoo.

What funny things nicknames are.
