“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”~Elder Neal A. Maxwell~

Basketball Banquet
Shayne had his last high school basketball banquet.
He truly and finally decided he just couldn't do another year of coaching. This past season just about did him and our whole family in. Between a full-time job (50+ hours/week), going to school part time, a church calling as Ward Mission Leader, and a family at home, adding another 20-25+ hours a week with coaching was just way too much. He really decided this after the heart incident in January, which could have been attributed to the stress he's been under. So, he really decided it was too much...though his basketball widow wife was pushing pretty strongly for him to be done for awhile.
But, he ended on a very good year. His JV team won 7 games, which is a record for them. The varsity won 7 games which is the best record in the 6 seasons Shayne's been coaching. And, the varsity won a game at Regions for the Northern Lights Conference...which has never happened at Skyview High School. They also had a kid on the varsity set a new school record for steals, and another kid just miss the school record by 1 or 2 for blocks. So...it was a good year.
A good year to be done.
The boys are going to miss him immensely and he will miss them just as much.
I'm sure he's not totally out. I'm sure he'll still be involved in some aspect, whether it be hanging out at open gyms, or practices, but at least he won't be obligated to fulfill a job.
He loves coaching basketball too much and being around those boys to be completely done. But, for now he's mostly done.
I'm not gonna lie...
Yeah for me!!
