“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”

One Month Pics...

Lovin' on his baby sister again.

When The Bug was a baby we started a tradition of taking a pic each month with the same stuffed animal to show how big he was growing...so I'm following up on this tradition with our Sweet Pea.

I picked this funny Dr. Seuss Wocket The Bug got for Christmas from his Great Grammy Gerth. I think it's perfect to show how much our Sweet Pea is growing.

So...here are her statistics from her first month:

On May 25th at 5 days old she weighed 6lb 12oz...she only lost 3 oz, which is way less than The Bug...he lost almost 14oz...this girl loves to eat!

A week later on June 1st at 12 days old she weighed 7lbs 11oz...almost a full pound in a week! This girl is wasting no time gaining her weight!

On June 22nd, just over a month old she was 9lbs 8oz and 21.5" long. So, in a month she had gained 2 1/2 pounds and 1". She was at the 50% for both weight and length. In comparison, The Bug only weighed 7lb 14 oz at his one month appointment, and finally hit 10lbs at his 2 month appointment...he stayed in the 10-12% for weight for a long time. He wasn't motivated by food either...however, this little girl loves her food!!

A week later on June 29th, at 5 1/2 weeks old she was 10lb 2 oz and 21.75" long. In a week she gained 10 oz!! We met with Carla, Doc's wife who does all the milestone "stuff". Our Sweet Pea passed everything with flying colors. She's even tracking objects in an arch above her head which is ahead of schedule...but I can't say I'm surprised. This little girl came out ready to take on the world...I swear she's trying to grow up way too fast!

So there are our Sweet Pea's stats for her first month. I have a feeling our little girl isn't going to be "little" for very much longer. :)

This Little Boy...

...cracks us up!

Here he is with a worm he and his dad found while working in the yard. He thought it was the coolest. He's been very interested bugs and worms lately. This is what happens when you're outside working in the yard, or walking in the woods with dad. :)

But, he has been coming up with the funniest things lately. Here are some of his funnier incidents:

One morning after he got up, he wanted to see Sweet Pea who was still asleep in her bed, which is next to ours. So he climbed up on our bed and crawled over to where he could see her sleeping. He then looked at her and he tried to talk to her, but she wouldn't wake up, so he just looked at me and said, "Oh no mom! Her barreries boken. She not working. She new barreries!" He had decided since her eyes weren't opening her batteries must be broken, and she needed new ones. I just laughed and informed him babies don't have batteries, she was just sleeping. I had to call my mom and tell her this story.

A couple of Sundays ago, he found a Lady Bug outside. He brought it in and played with it for awhile, then took it back outside. After a bit he came back in and informed me he had squished the Lady Bug. I looked sad and told him that he had broken her and now she couldn't go back to her family. So, he thought for a minute, then started yelling as he ran to his toy closet, "Oh no mom! I get my tools. I fix her!" He repeated this many times getting his little toy tool box with his tools. He took them outside, but I'm not sure what he did. I think he got distracted. But it was funny that he thought he could fix her with his tools.

He loves to watch Word World on PBS, and one episode is about "Snug as a Bug in a Rug", teaching rhyming. Anyway, he had climbed up onto the bed again one morning to see his little Sweet Pea, and she was all wrapped up in her blanket, b/c I swaddle her at night. He just looked at her, then looked at me and said, "Mom...she snug as a bug in a rug." I laughed and said, "Yup, she is!"

Lately if we've been playing and he has to leave to get something, he'll yell..."Be wight back mom. Be wight back."

Another episode of Word World is about how duck is trying to go on vacation, but it's actually migration and he needs to find the letter "V". Anyway, after watching this episode he got his barn out that opens up, but closed it and walked around holding it like it was a suitcase and repeated over and over and over again, "I go on a 'cation mom. I go on 'cation. I need go on a 'cation. Uh oh...I need my "V" mom. Where's my "v"?" He seriously talked about going on a "'cation" forever! It took him saying it a couple of times for me to realize he was talking about a "vacation"...hence 'cation.

Lately when you ask him a question or ask him to do something sometimes he'll answer with, "Not xactly. Not xactly mom." Not sure where he got this, but it's too funny

The other morning I had cut up an apricot for him to eat with a fork, b/c he hates to get his hands sticky. But after trying a few times to stab a piece with his fork I hear, "Oh no mom! Iss no use! Iss no use mom. Iss not working." He couldn't pick up the apricot and was pretty distraught about it. :)

One day for lunch he wanted another apricot, so climbed up on a chair to get one off the counter. He grabbed one and was sitting on the chair looking at his apricot with a serious look. Then he looked at me and said while pointing at his apricot, "Look mom. Is his bum." I said whose bum? He responded, "Is the apricots bum mom." He was pointing to the line that goes down the apricot...and it really does look like a bum. Ya...I called Shayne and my mom to tell them this one. I laughed pretty good about it, and I had to agree with him.

The Tuia's had come down to visit and brought their camper trailer. He wanted to go in their trailer one morning. When I initially told him no and asked why he wanted to go in it, he responded, "I need go "All board" mom. I wanna go all board, mom!" I'm not sure where he got this (maybe from the one or two times he's watched Dinosaur Train on PBS??), but when he plays with his school bus or airplane with the little people toys, he always tells them..."All aboard!!" So, I guess he thought the camper trailer looked like a train and he needed to get all aboard! Kaye and I just kinda laughed and let him climb "All Aboard" their camper trailer.

A couple of other things he says just randomly, b/c he's not sure where to use them are: "There's no point!" (He got this from Tangled...when they're trapped in the rocks and the water is rising...Eugene tells Rapunzel "There's no point!") Or..."Just be patient! Just need be patient!" (Pretty sure he gets that from me telling him it OFTEN, b/c he's not a patient child.)

Ok...these are just a couple of his funny stories lately I wanted to write down. He is such a smart little boy and thinks about the funniest things. He obviously is very influenced by what he watches on tv, so we're going to have to be very careful about what he watches.

We love this little boy and the entertainment he provides for us. He is so funny and his little brain works in some incredible ways. He surprises us almost every day with something he says or does. He's such a good boy, and we love him lots and lots!!

Big Brother - Baby Sister

Giving his baby sister a hug...so dang cute!!

I love these close-up pics of my beautiful kids...love them.

Sweet Pea was done and The Bug was curious as to what was inside my camera...he was trying to see what was inside the lens...too funny.

I got The Bug a "I'm the big brother" t-shirt and Sweet Pea a "Little Sister" t-shirt and wanted to take some pics with them together.

So, one afternoon I put them on the couch and shot some pics real quick before she started to get fussy and he was bored holding her.

I got a couple of really good pics. It was fun taking them and watching the two of them interact with each other.

In one of the pics The Bug wanted to give Sweet Pea a hug and I was lucky enough to get a couple pics of him giving her the hug.

I love that The Bug loves his baby sister and hope that minus the typical sibling arguments/fights, they stay good friends.

A mom can always hope. :)

Mean Mom

So, I was getting ready to take some cute "Brother/Sister" pics, when I heard The Bug crying for help.

He had been playing in this diaper box for most of the day and had been having a blast. But...he crawled in it weird I guess, and could get out. So, he cried for me to help him...and being the good mom I am...I proceeded to get my camera and take a picture of him stuck in the box.

Now...don't think I'm a mean mom all of my own accord. This pic was a complete deja vu...or a flashback...of my own childhood. My mom has a VERY similar pic of me stuck in a metal clothes hamper I had crawled in and couldn't get out of. I was screaming looking up at the camera while my mom took the pic. Seriously...very similar picture. I'll have to see if I can find it and post it with this one, b/c it's pretty funny.

So...it's not my fault I ran and got a camera and took a pic of my distressed child...it's my mom's! :)

Baldy

These are just a couple of cute pics of my poor bald baby girl.

She had a little bit of reddish hair when she was born, but when I gave her her first real bath and rubbed the top of her head with a washcloth, the stuff on top came off. She still has some around her head, but nothin' on top. So, she looks like a little bald man!

At her one month appointment, Doc just looked at her and informed her she needed to grow some hair. :)

So, when we go out I have to put a bow on her head or else she is mistaken for a boy...regardless of the pink EVERYTHING she is covered in. Oh well...

I think she's an adorable bald baby girl!

Washin' Bo

So it's been so nice outside...thank heavens!!

This particular morning The Bug had been going in and out of our downstairs bathroom filling up a little pink bucket with water and playing with it outside. Then I hear him tell me he'll "Be wight back mom! I be wight back. I need a wash cwof" He proceeded to go upstairs, get one of his washcloths and go back outside. Now I was curious.

I went outside and he's telling Bo he needs a 'baf' and to "hold still Bo!" Bo, being the good dog he is...or maybe he's just a little slow...stands there while The Bug would dip is washcloth in the pink bucket of water and proceed to give him a bath.

After awhile Bo was tired of standing there, so he started running around, but that didn't deter The Bug. He would just run after him with his wet washcloth yelling at him to hold still. It was pretty comical.

I later went outside to get the washcloth that was left in the yard, and found one of my dish towels from the kitchen as well.

Guess he needed to dry him off too. :)

Take Me Out To The Ballgame...

I know this is one of the things Shayne has dreamed about since we knew we were having a little boy...taking him to his first baseball game. Baseball is Shayne's first love...even before fishing, there was baseball.

So...this day was a dream come true. We have a baseball team up here on the Kenai Peninsula called The Peninsula Oilers and they are part of an Alaskan baseball league full of mostly college baseball players who come up to play for the summer. We've actually had some players go on to play in the MLB...Mark McGuire being one of them.

Anyway...I digress...

On June 20th they were playing in Kenai so we decided to check them out. Shayne had so much fun chillin' with his little boy at their first baseball game. We went again on the 24th and they played catch together. It really was a lot of fun. It reminded me a little bit of growing up around the different rodeo arenas we traveled to with our parents, which was fun for us kids.

Anyway...He's already instilled his love of baseball in his little boy...they love to play catch, hit the ball, and even watch it at home. I'm doomed. :)

One of Shayne's bucket-list items is to take his kids to every MLB ballpark. I'm ok with this bucket-list item...it means we get to go on a lot of fun road-trips and see lots of the country. Can't wait to start our adventure.

She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy...

So, after Shayne got home from work one day, he took our Sweet Pea outside...and she loves to be outside. I looked out to see how things were going, and this is what I saw. He was putting her on the toy tractor...probably at the request of The Bug.

I thought it was pretty cute all of the hanging out, so I had to get some pics. As you can see, The Bug loves his dad, loves being outside, and loves his baby sister...so he was a happy camper!

And even the Sweet Pea tolerated it pretty well.

Gammy & Papa Come To Visit

Here are all the pics from when Gammy & Papa Pond came to visit...so there are lots of pics.

Meeting Gammy for the first time...and giving her smiles. Already loves her Gammy. :)

Ok...maybe it wasn't a smile, but she did give her smiles later.

Meeting Papa Pond for the first time.

Looking up at her Papa Pond.

The Bug being shy and hiding from his Papa Pond...he woke up to them already at the house.

This was too funny...The Bug got down his "inoculars" (as he calls them), and instead of looking out the window at the birds, he walked over to where Papa had fallen asleep and looked at him. Gammy and I thought it was pretty funny. :)

Getting a fire started to roast hot dogs on...first one of the season.

The Bug helping Gammy plant the rest of my pansies.

Roasting hot dogs w/ Gammy and the fire she started

My favorite pic of Sweet Pea and her Gammy. They got along great!

We went to Seward one day and had lunch, but it was raining out...so dad put on the Baby Bjorn and carried Sweet Pea around wrapped in a blanket on his chest. It was pretty funny.

We went to the playground one day with Gammy when it was sunny out and had lunch.

Touching Halibut eyeballs...I just missed him actually poking it's eye. He thought it was "skishy"

Taking pics with Daddy and Papa's halibut they caught when they went out with the Brown's. I woke The Bug up from a nap to go see the big fish...that's why he's not being so cooperative about looking at the camera. :)

Watching Dan and John Brown filleting the halibut Dad and Papa caught

Getting ready for our first hike with our Sweet Pea, and she was only 4 weeks old. We did this hike on Saturday, June 18th. The Bug was loving riding in the Chariot. Thankfully Sweet Pea slept the whole way up...and most of the way back. She did get tired of the Chariot on the way back so daddy carried her the rest of the way and she was ok with that. The Bug walked part of the way back, but then he and Malia were tired of walking and rode the rest of the way in the Chariot while Papa pushed them.

Getting ready for our hike to the Russian River Falls with the Tuia's and Gammy and Papa Pond.

Eating lunch at the falls

Rock climbing at the falls

Sliding down the hill. This kid loves his sunglasses and hat. It's pretty cute, I'm not gonna lie. :)

So, Kaye gave him a couple of gummy worms, but I think he thought they were real, b/c he never ate them. He just continued to play with them in the dirt...both the worms and his hands were FILTHY!!

They found one of those little green worms...and both Malia and The Bug were fascinated with it.

Do you see the gummy worm on dad's hat?

It's our token family pic at the Russian River Falls...it's our first family pic with our Sweet Pea.

All of us at the look out at the Russian River Falls.

The Sweet Pea and Papa. I had to get a pic, b/c she's been pretty partial to women, and wasn't very content to be held by Papa...until this particular night. She was just looking up at him here and I think she ended up falling asleep.

The three monsters in the bathtub after a long day of hiking.

Reading, "The B Book". This was Shayne's most favorite book when he was The Bug's age. So, Gammy got it for The Bug when he was just a baby and he loves it too. So, Papa and Daddy read it to him one night for bed. Papa still has it memorized he read it so many times to Shayne.

Gammy and Papa Pond came to visit on Monday June 13th and stayed until Monday June 20th. We had so much fun with them, and thoroughly enjoyed having them here. It was nice for me to have Gammy to help with the kids while Shayne and his dad were fishing. She spent lots of time holding Sweet Pea and playing with The Bug. However, now I have to deal with a spoiled baby who wants to be held all the time. :) It's all good though...it's worth it to have them here spending time with their grandkids.

They were able to be here for Sweet Pea's first major outing...a hike to the Russian River Falls (thanks Papa for pushing the Chariot up and back), The Bug's first dentist appointment (he did AWESOME! and things look great. Thanks Gammy for watching Sweet Pea while we went to the appointment), and most important they were here for Sweet Pea's blessing.
