“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”

Coaching Varsity...Seward Tourny

Shayne coaching his first varisty game...this was pre-game just before it started.

So...this was the last game of the Seward Basketball Tournament.  And Shayne got to coach it, by himself.  His first varsity coaching experience.  While he enjoyed being able to coach, the reason he got to coach wasn't such a good thing.

The team had played Seward the night before and it wasn't going well.  The refs were calling a bunch of fouls on our boys, but weren't calling the game very evenly...which is what happens when you got to Seward and pretty much everyone knows this I guess.  Anyway, the Skyview Coach, Jesse, started to give the refs a hard time about the calls and after getting one technical foul and being warned, then got another one and was then tossed from the game.  This also meant he couldn't coach the final game the next day...he couldn't even watch the game.  So, that meant Shayne had to/got to coach.

So, while Shayne was disappointed in the fact the coach was thrown out and couldn't coach, he's wanted to be able to coach his own varsity team for awhile, so was fine with the opportunity it provided him with.

The game was against Valdez and was actually a really good game.  It came right down to the wire, and had one of Shayne's starters not fouled out, they would have won the game.  I was sad they didn't win, but excited they played as well as they did for Shayne.  It was definitely a learning experience for him.

Meanwhile...I had the to chillins' with me on the bench during the game.  Shordy was entertained with his race cars, and Tiny was content to play with her toys and attempt to suck on her binkie that was still attached to the car seat.  :)

They've been to enough basketball games by now to know the drill on how it all works.  They were little champs.  It was a fun weekend over-all.  When we went to the pool on Friday morning, Shordy even started to float on his own with his water wings...which is a big deal for him.  Tiny is going to have no problems with swimming and water...she loves it!  She would be out of her floatie and splashing all over if she could.  :)

We are glad we could go and support dad, and have fun with the Tuia's as well.  It was a fun weekend!
