“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”

Let's Go Fly a Kite

Can I just say...that in these pics I realized my little toddler is gone and has been replaced by this little boy? I'm not sure where he went...but he's definitely not there anymore. Sniff-sniff.

The weather has been so nice, we had to get out. When I say so nice...I mean it's getting into the 50's, but not the 60's. But the snow is gone, so that is nice. We've had better springs, this one is just ok...I'm hoping it's not an indicator of what our summer is going to be like, b/c I REALLY want/need a super sunny stupendous summer!! (How's that for alliteration?!)

Anyway, we headed over to Kasilof Beach b/c I wanted to fly a kite w/ The Bug, and you are pretty much guaranteed wind at the beach.

While Dad was putting the kite together, The Bug played in the now dry sand. He quickly found a rock that he HAD to throw into the ocean, but you can see from the first rock-throwing pic, he was a little far away. So, we moved down to the water-line and he proceeded to throw rocks to his hearts content. He has a fascination with little rocks, so he was always trying to find tiny rocks. But, he also recognized the bigger ones went a little farther. This obsession with throwing rocks into water originates from his dad...and I think it's just a boy thing.

He also discovered Bo (our golden retriever) likes to go into the water and will run into it after sticks. Not that he actually brings the sticks back...he's a pretty defective retriever. But, The Bug was more than happy and entertained to find sticks to throw into the ocean and watch Bo, go after them, sniff them, then turn around and come back sans stick, and roll like a mad dog in the sand.

After throwing rocks and sticks for a bit, dad showed up with the kite. He thought it was pretty awesome, and soon had to hold the string himself. Well, dad obliged and they started walking up and down the beach with the kite in tow. He thought he was pretty smart he was flying a kite.

But...he wasn't as enamored with the kite as I thought he would be. His interest in it didn't last as long as I'd hoped. Oh well. While dad was putting the kite away we got his sand bucket, which is castle shaped to use as a sand mold, and made some sand castles. He definitely loved that. But, of course, had to try it out himself. You can see some of the pics show how successful he was doing it on his own, but he didn't care...he was just excited he did it!

We had to take pics of his sand castles, and as you can see from his different poses, he was pretty proud of them. Such cute pics!!

So, this was The Bug's first experience flying a kite. I hope we have the sort of summer where we have lots more days of kite flying, rock throwing, and sand castle making on Kasilof Beach!!
