While Shayne was fishing, my mom, dad, The Bug, and I went to a little outdoor market in Kapaa. We found lots of fun things, and even had some Shave Ice. It was so dang hot! The Bug was sweatin' up a storm...he's an Alaskan baby for cryin' out loud!
After picking up Shayne and his perm-a-grin smile we went to an orchid nursery. I really wanted to buy an Hawaiian orchid. They would have packaged it for me and everything so I could take it on the plane, but they weren't going to be open the day we left, so it didn't work. I have way too many house plants as it is. It was a pretty cool place though...I sorta love plants.
Anyway, while there my dad watched The Bug as he tottered around and explored the place. I love that pic of my dad in his shorts...he never wears shorts. :) My mom, from whom I inherited my love of plants, was fascinated with the banana trees. Hence, the pic of the bananas. I did learn some cool things about them.
Then we went to a light house on the East Shore. They have all kinds of Hawaiian geese that hang out there. They are pretty use to people so weren't too concerned about us walking around them. However, The Bug thought they were GREAT!! The geese did not reciprocate this feeling. They never acted aggressively, but they weren't big fans either. I had to constantly pull him away from them. It was pretty entertaining. Oh ya...the view was great too! :)
On our way back to the condo, we learned quickly about the Hawaiian lifestyle. "We are open when we feel like it, but we close when we feel like it too." We tried a couple of different places to eat or get a smoothie, but they were all closed...at 4:00 in the afternoon!! Oh well...we learned. Gotta love the locals!
