“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”~Elder Neal A. Maxwell~

Hiking Grebe Lake w/ the Tubbs'
On Wednesday, most of Shayne's family left, except for his older brother Dustin. And then my sister, Maysi and her whole family of boys showed up a day early for the Price Reunion. We planned on doing a small hike into Grebe Lake in West Yellowstone to do some Grayling fishing. It's an easy flat 3 mile in hike we thought the little boys, Holdan & Lachlan could do. Shayne, Dustin & I had done this previously and caught some small Grayling so we knew what to expect.
It's an interesting hike b/c you walk through areas of from the huge Yellowstone forest fire of 1989. So you see all the burned and downed trees and the new growth as well.
The little boys did pretty good going in. Dad had Tiny in a backpack on his back and she did fine up there. Austin had baby Taggert on his back and Maysi and I trudged along with the little boys, while her 3 older boys basically ran circles around the rest of us. :) We got to the lake pretty much without incident. We kept the little boys entertained with games of "I Spy" and getting them log swords to fight of imaginary bears.
We had lunch at the lake and them the Tubbs boys with their dad did some fishing and then Shayne & Dustin walked further down the lake to fish as well. Maysi and I took the little boys to a tiny spot on the bank that had a small beach and let them put their feet in the water. It wasn't real warm b/c the wind was blowing pretty good there...and it was overcast, b/c of all the smoke from different forest fires in the Park.
After eating lunch and letting the boys get their feet wet, I spent the rest of the time trying to keep Tiny from going swimming in the lake...and she was NOT happy with me b/c I wouldn't let her wander wherever she wanted. She was in desperate need of a nap...that's for sure! After dealing with her for about 45 minutes I was pretty much done, and we needed to start getting back to the cabin b/c Shayne & I were in charge of the Thursday night dinner as the rest of my fam was going to be arriving at the cabin.
So, I packed up Tiny put her in the backpack and took off with Shordy as well. Shayne quickly figured out I was annoyed and booked it back to where I was before I had even left the lake. So, we all hiked back out together.
This time the little boys did not do so well. They are only just barely 4 and not quite 4, so their little legs were tired. Shayne ended up taking Tiny so I stayed back with Shordy who continued to whine and cry until Uncle Dustin put him up on his shoulders and then booked it back out. Seriously...he booked it. He and Shayne were at the car WAY before I made it there. Poor Dustin's shoulders and back were about cramping up from hauling a 35 lb kid on his shoulders for almost 3 miles.
I stayed back with Maysi and tried to help her get Holdan moving. But after about 1 1/2 miles Austin came back and he swapped with Maysi giving her Taggert and he threw Holdan up on his shoulders and with his long legs motated back to the car. Maysi and I were seriously having a hard time keeping up and we didn't have a 4 year old boy on our shoulders. :)
We did make it back to the car, finally. We were actually worried about a new fire that had started and we could see the black smoke and it wasn't far from where we were at, and with the wind blowing we were a little bit concerned. But, we make it back without incident.
By the time we made it back to the cabin, my brother Kade, his family and my Mom & Dad has already showed up and were getting dinner ready. I felt bad about being late, but we all survived. Dustin ended up staying for dinner and getting to meet all my family with all the craziness of having 14 grandkids running around and 2 grandbabies to hold. We had to set some ground rules for all the little boys we have, but they were very good kids and followed the rules. :)
Even my family survived one of my "I'm grumpy b/c I haven't eaten episode" :) Kade attempted to bring me grapes, but I pretty much bit his head off and sent him back in the cabin. I was much better after dinner. :)
It was a fun day and a fun hike to do with the Tubbs family and Uncle Dustin. So glad he was there to help Shordy out. Love making memories like this with our families.
